Duct Cleaning
Does
your home suffer from indoor air pollution?
It may be time to have your ductwork cleaned if:
- You or anyone in your home experience headaches or a burning
sensation in the nose, eyes or throat when inside your home;
- Anyone in your home suffers from allergies, asthma or breathing
problems;
- There are smokers in your house;
- You have indoor pets; or
- You have a one inch fiberglass air filter
Dust, mold, pollen and animal dander all circulate
in your home when your cooling or heating system’s fan is running.
Combine humidity with the moisture in your ductwork — especially
in the cool damp basements in the summer — , and you have a breeding
ground and delivery system in your home or business for fungi,
germ and household mold. The National Safety Council reports children,
pregnant women and the elderly are especially susceptible to health
problems associated with indoor air pollution. We work hard to
live healthy through diet, exercise and an awareness of environmental
issues. But too often we overlook the indoor air we breathe for
up to 90 percent of our average day! The Environmental Protection
Agency reports that levels of indoor air pollution inside the
home can be two to five times higher than outdoor levels. A clean
ductwork system is an important step to keeping your home and
business a cleaner, safer place for our family and co-workers.
Landmark Heating and Cooling uses the most advanced air duct cleaning
system available. The Nikro Industries system was created by one
of the leaders in filtered vacuum equipment and meets OSHA, EPA,
and NADCA standards for cleaning the air and removing nuisance
dusts.
The vacuum is hooked to your duct near the furnace
and various tools are used to dislodge dirt and debris from your
air ducts. The vacuum then pulls the contaminants out of the ducts,
through the filtration system, returning clean air to your home.
Once the ducts are cleaned, access holes are resealed, returning
your system to its original clean condition.
The ductwork has been cleaned, now let’s keep it clean. The best
filter on the market is Lennox’s Pureair filter. It is a combination
of a highly efficient 16 Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value or
MERV filter with Ultraviolet (UV) lights with a catalyst. The UVA
lights activate the catalyst which destroys the chemicals, turning
them into water vapor and carbon dioxide. The 16 MERV filter then
captures the remaining contaminants.
The Pureair filter creates no harmful side effects like ozone,
typical with other filters.
The indoor A-coil for the air conditioner can also be a source
of contaminants. Installing a germicidal light above the coil will
disinfect the surface and reduce mold and bacteria growth.
If you do not have the room for the Pureair filter,
consider installing a free standing HEPA filter. This provides
air quality comparable to that of hospital operating rooms. This
filter has a rating of 99.97 percent efficiency for particles up
to 0.3 microns. A carbon/charcoal filter cleans the air by absorbing
odors and chemical fumes.
